New systems

Systems are in place whether we choose them or not.

When I work with business owners, it is when they want new systems. Their current processes, tools and ways of working on their teams isn’t achieving their next goals. They had systems that developed naturally and worked for 5+ years.

I like coming in at this stage because the business owner is the expert in the field. I am not advising on how to design the business to compete with all the other businesses in that industry.

I am here to help business owners to continue to challenge the norm. I am here to look at problems without making the assumptions of what is the way it is, that happen for people bred in the industry.

I love it! Check out the latest newsletter and sign up on the bottom of the homepage or other pages to get monthly tools and shifts in your systems to meet your next level goals.

Newsletters - simple, right?

Over a year ago, I started sending out a newsletter and I’ve wanted it to be a different newsletter ever since the beginning.

Newsletters and email subscription lists have a terrible reputation. So many are a nuisance - too often, too long, all about the sender (not the receiver).

Newsletters are such a great way to continue to support you and other business owners in daily ways.

I’ve fallen victim to trying to jam pack a lot of value in them that they get tough to get out the door. Thankfully, I have a wonderful assistant who provides great feedback and notes on it. Annnnndd really helps me simplify :)

I’m ambitious with the newsletters to give you something actionable and helpful. Less really can be more by delivering a clear, focused tool, template, thought or concept that shifts how your business works everyday :) I hope you are enjoying it. Feel free to drop me a simple note anytime with what you would like to see more of OR (what some have done) is share with me a problem you are facing. Let me think on it and find solutions ;)

The double-edged sword of ambition

Entrepreneurs are ambitious people. No question!

Ambition is great until it’s not. Thinking of goals, it becomes really challenging to not lose patience when results are not happening on the goal.

We too easily try to do it all in 1 year then miss then keep trying again and again haha But losing energy along the way and getting disappointed with teams executing on the goals.

This is why I think Visions (=3-5 year goals for the business operations, client impact and industry influence) are great. They help see how the stage goals beyond 1 year.

Within the 1 year goals, it becomes helpful to have both Results Goals and Actions Goals. Can you sense a theme this month? ;)

Actions Goals are not Action Plans

Goals are targets that we aim for, move towards and celebrate when we get there.

Action Plans can feel like to-do lists which are necessary but inherently feel less exciting.

Taking a Results Goal and finding the sub-goals that are action-focused can bring the excitement to the sub-goals. Actions Goals are exciting all on their own! an Actions Goal would be say a junior marketing manager that consistently posted 5 times per week for 20 weeks and hit 100 posts! Of course they have to be good quality but the consistency in posting is worth celebrating in the beginning. Then shifting to a combination of Actions and Results Goals. Then shifting to a results focus, once the person is a confident leader with the toolkit to navigate taking action, seeing insights and then taking new action quickly and consistently.

Bring the excitement to this stage in the business and this stage of a manager’s development by setting Actions Goals!

What comes before the Results Goals

Results goals = traditional goals that our mind goes to:

  • Increase revenue to $5M

  • Improve profitability to 25%

  • Cut costs by $100k

  • Add 3 new locations

  • Launch new offering

  • Etc…you know the traditional goals ;)

These results that you want are off in the future and are needed. What about the day-to-day? The day-to-day is where actions are taken.

What are the sub-goals to get to the Results Goal? What are the actions that your team needs to take to get there?
