Waymaker

Disney’s Moana is a really powerful movie for me. Completely unexpectedly. I watched it with my niece and I loved it as much as her. We both instantly identified with Moana who is a ‘waymaker’.

She beats to her own drum in the most love-filled, ambitious, creative, resourceful, well meaning way. Just like my young niece…and I. One of my identities is a waymaker. I’m not a waymaker all day, everyday. That just wouldn’t be practical - like I don’t need to reinvent the toothbrush that I sue to brush my teeth every morning and night, I don’t need to reinvent the English language that I use everyday to communicate with people and I don’t need to reinvent so many other things that I use throughout the day. I do like to forge my own path everyday, part of the day, in certain areas.

Staying consistent with who we think we are is the strongest force in human nature. Having identities that we lean in to for part of the day enable us to be that part full out which leads to more progress, more joy, more connection, more of ALL the good stuff. The trick becomes to trigger the right identity at the right time in the day.

This year I am making it easier to trigger the identity I need at ANY given MOMENT and I am EXCITED to share what I find that helps so that others can be more of themselves and have more of what they want in work and in life. Here’s to this next year!
