People management process
More than leadership
A great leader can still have challenges managing a team of people.
You can love your people yet still want to spend less time with them. Being a great leader is different than being a manager or having a management process for the people side of the business. Managing people comes with different responsibilities and is often outside the zone of genius for founders/ entrepreneurs. It is also one of the places that is hard to let go of and it takes years of inconsistent business results, turnover and dissatisfaction to take action.
There is no shame in wanting to spend less time managing people when you love your people. It can be about getting smarter with the time you spend with them. Whether it’s shifting many daily responsibilities to a people manager or developing a process for managing the team, it can reduce how much time you are spending with them and make each interaction more intentional.
Lead for tomorrow
Lead for tomorrow by changing how you manage today. Design a process for you to directly use or to empower a new manager with the team. An intentional process can make the most of your time and shift your managing responsibilities so you can get back to your zone of genius. Your zone of genius created the company and enabled its growth to now. Getting back to that zone will mean new enjoyment, new results and new impact.
Your people are important to you and you want to empower them to enjoy and excel in their work.
Working smarter
You are the main person managing your team…your growing team. Whether you continue to manage the team as it grows or you have a manager for the team, laying out a process creates clarity on the when and how of performance conversations.
Intentional time is smart time. Having a process, tools and templates for enabling great performance is being a smart leader. You do not need to directly spend time with your team to be a great leader. You need to spend the right amount, at the right times to be a great leader.

Lead with intention
Great performance comes from your leadership AND your system. Processes and tools make a system. You can continue to do your part to work on your leadership skills as you put in place a process and tools for people to improve their performance. The process map here may give you the clarity you need. Is it time to bring together the great resources you have, fill in gaps and design a system? Check out other tools-in-action to see how there are layers to people and performance management. As the leader, you decide what’s next for taking your team and business into its next stage.
